Story

Once upon a time there were four little rabbits. Their names were: Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. They lived with their Mother under the root of a very big fir tree.

"Now, children," said old Mrs. Rabbit one morning, "you may go into the fields or down the road. But don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden. Your father had an accident there. Mrs. McGregor put him in a pie." The children gasped.

Mrs. Rabbit picked up her basket and her umbrella. She gave them all a big smile. "Now run along, children, and don't get into mischief. I am going out."

Then she went out the door. She went to the baker's. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five sweet buns. They would have a nice dinner.

Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail were good little bunnies. They went down the lane to find some blackberries. But Peter was very naughty. He ran right away to Mr. McGregor's garden and squeezed under the gate!

First he ate some lettuce and some carrots. Then he nibbled on some radishes. And then, feeling rather sick, he went to look for some parsley.

But when he came to the end of a cucumber frame, whom should he meet but Mr. McGregor!

Mr. McGregor was on his hands and knees planting young cabbages, but he jumped up and ran after Peter, waving a rake and calling out, "Stop thief!"

Peter was very scared. He rushed all over the garden. He had forgotten the way back to the gate.

He lost one of his shoes among the cabbages, and the other shoe near the potatoes. Without shoes, he dropped to all four legs so he could run faster. He might have gotten completely away if he had not unfortunately run into a gooseberry fence. He was wearing a blue jacket with brass buttons, and the buttons got caught in the net.

Peter gave himself up for lost, and he shed big tears. But some friendly sparrows heard him crying. They flew down to him and begged him to keep trying to escape. "You can do it, Peter," they said.

Mr. McGregor had a big butterfly net in his hands. He came up behind Peter and tried to scoop him up. But Peter wriggled out just in time, leaving his jacket behind him. He rushed into the toolshed and saw a large watering can. It looked big and beautiful and a great place in which to hide. He jumped inside. It wasn't until he had that he realized it had water in it.

Mr. McGregor was quite sure Peter was somewhere in the shed. Perhaps he was hidden underneath a flower pot. He turned each one over carefully, looking under them one by one, but Peter wasn't there.

It was then that Peter sneezed, "Ahchoo!" Mr. McGregor was after him in no time. The net was no good in such a small space, so he tried to step on Peter. Peter was fast, though, and he jumped out of a window, upsetting three plants. The window was too small for Mr. McGregor to fit through. And he was tired of running after Peter. He went back to his work.

Outside, Peter sat down to rest. He was out of breath and trembling with fright. And he still didn't have any idea which way to go. Also, he was very damp from sitting in that can. His fur was matted, and he was cold.

He sat for a while, then he began to wander about, going hop-hop-hop. He didn't go very fast, and he looked all around to see where he was. He found a door in a wall, but it was locked. There was no room for a fat little rabbit to squeeze underneath.

An old mouse was running in and out over the stone doorstep, carrying peas and beans to her family in the woods. Peter asked her the way to the gate. But she had such a large pea in her mouth that she could not answer. She only shook her head at him. Peter began to cry again.

Then he tried to find his way straight across the garden. But he became more and more confused. He didn't know this garden, and he didn't know which trail led out. After a while, he came to a pond where Mr. McGregor filled his watering cans. A white cat was staring at some goldfish in the pond. She sat very, very still. But now and then the tip of her tail twitched as if it were alive. Peter thought it best to go away without speaking to her. He had heard about cats from his cousin, little Benjamin Bunny. He didn't think she'd be very friendly.

He went back the way he came, towards the toolshed. Suddenly, quite close to him, he heard the noise of a hoe -- scr-r-ritch, scr-r-ratch. Peter dove under the bushes, shaking with fear. He waited and waited, but nothing happened. He poked his nose out, then his front paws, then his back paws. He climbed on top of a wheelbarrow and peeped over. The first thing he saw was Mr. McGregor hoeing onions. His back was turned towards Peter and beyond him was the gate! Oh, how wonderful!

Peter got down very quietly off the wheelbarrow. He started running as fast as he could go, along a straight walk behind some berry bushes.

Mr. McGregor caught sight of him at the corner, but Peter did not care. He slipped underneath the gate and out into the wood outside the garden. Safe at last!

Peter never stopped running or looked behind him till he got home to the big fir tree.

He was so tired that he flopped down on the nice soft sand on the floor of the rabbit hole and shut his eyes. His mother was busy cooking. She wondered what he had done with his clothes. She didn't know that Mr. McGregor hung up the little jacket and the shoes as a scarecrow to frighten the birds.

Peter did not feel very well during the rest of the evening. His mother put him to bed, made him a hot cut of tea, and gave him a spoonful of bad-tasting medicine.

"Drink it up, Peter." Then she kissed him goodnight.

But Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail felt just fine. They had bread, and milk, and blackberries for supper.

The Tortoise never for a moment stopped. She went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course. A Man had two dogs. One was a Hound, trained to assist him in his sports, and the other was a House Dog, taught to watch the house. When he came home after a good day's hunting, he always gave the House Dog a large share of his catch. The Hound felt very hurt at this. He scolded his companion, saying, "My work is very hard, but it is harder to watch you. You do not help me with the chase, but you share in my reward. It is not fair." The House Dog replied, "Do not blame me, my friend. If you are angry, find fault with the master. He is the one who has taught me not to work but to depend on the work of others for my food. A Crow stole a bit of meat, and she perched in a tree, holding it firmly in her beak. A Fox saw her there and knew he wanted the meat for himself. He came up with a plan. "How handsome is the Crow," he said. "Her shape is beautiful and her feathers bright. If only her voice were equal to her beauty, she would be called the Queen of Birds!" He lied when he said this, but the Crow was vain. She wanted to show the Fox that her voice really was as beautiful as he said. She opened her mouth wide and cawed loudly, dropping the meat to the ground. The Fox quickly picked it up and shook his head with scorn. Their sphere of activities was limited to domestic work. Upto the 19th century it was believed that women were the servants of of the homes of their husbands. In those days women were not allowed to take part in political and social life and administration. Rousseau, the French Philosopher, who never married, once said: "The dignity of woman consists in being unknown to world. -- her glory is the esteem of her husband; her pleasure the happiness of her family." But time created new situations and the old outlook underwent a change.
Quite recently , women have come to take more and more prominent part in many spheres of life. In some respects, they have excelled men. In sports, intellectual and artistic pursuits, in have succeeded marvelously as teachers and nurses. Goldsmith, the famous poet and writer, made a complaint two centuries ago: "Women famed for their valour, their skill in politics, or their learning have left the duties of their own sex, in order to invade the privilege of ours."
This is what the women are doing today.
There is practically no field where women are not competing with men. In professions, outdoor life and law, they claim equality with men. In business, trade, industry, in the learned professions, in politics, administration, scientific research, literary and artistic activities, Eve is making herself felt everywhere. They are police and military officers. They are working as sale girls, as air hostesses and as clerks and steno-typists. They are turning out men from the posts of personal secretaries. As the days pass we have to get more and more used to the idea of seeing women working side by side men riding, driving, flying, playing, even fighting. Even in Pakistan we have women athletes, writers, leaders, administrators. They are fast discarding purdah and taking to active, outdoor life. Law has given to woman a status equal to that of man. In nearly every democratic country, women have the right to vote. They are claiming better rights to property.
Many thinkers including most of the Muslims, do not like the idea of woman taking an active part in public life and in the outdoor professions. They argue that biologically, woman's function is different from man's-- she has to be a mother. Women are not suitable for every job. They are too delicate to perform arduous duties of life. The real greatness of a woman lies in her role as mother. It is rightly said. "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." The mother who can bring up the right sorts of children is really a great benefactor of society. Islamic society gives a very respectable position to woman. The Holy Prophet has said, "Verily, the paradise lies under the feet of your mother." It is as a mother that she can best serve nation.
But it is clear that women will not return to their homes. The modern woman argues that she can be a good mother and at the same time, a good doctor or writer or administrator. As Susan B. Anthony , a famous woman worker says. "Modern inventions have banished the spinning wheel and the same law of progress makes the woman of today a different woman from her grandmother."

Essay:-
Democracy is the most popular form of government in the modern times. An other familiar name of Democracy is "Government by Consent". To quote Abraham Lincoln, it is commonly defined as "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people". In simple words, it may be any scheme of government in which the people are allowed to take part as a matter of right . It may be of two kinds: direct and indirect. The indirect democracy is in vogue these days. It is also called representative democracy or Government through representatives. Like all other systems, it has some merits and some demerits.
Democracy has many merits. First, it works for the betterment of the common man, Second, it is based on equality. Every citizen is thought to be equal to law. Third, it allows the people the right to change the government through vote. Fourth, it gives birth to a stable government because it reduces the danger of revolt. Fifth, in democracy, more importance is given to the education of man. It gives the people the sense of self-help and responsibility.
Democracy has some demerits also. First, it gives birth to party-politics which destroys the liberty and individuality of the people. Second, it is a very expensive form of government. Third, moral values are ignored in democracy. Every thing is fair for winning the elections. Fourth., bribery and corruption are the common abuses of democracy . Fifth, it usually ignorant of their responsibilities.
Islamic concept of Democracy is different from the modern concept of democracy.
First, in Islam, authority lies in God and not in the people.
Second, the government is there not to please the people but to enforce the orders of God.
Third, there is no party-politics in Islamic concept of democracy.
Fourth, quality and not quantity is given more importance in election or selection of representatives.
Modern democracy can be improved if we run it on the lines given by Islam. Then it can bring real peace and justice in the world. It is then that we may call it the best form of Government.

How to deal with this danger

Essay:-
Terrorism means "very great fear." Terrorism is the systematic and organized uses of violence and intimidation to force a government or community to act in a certain way, or accept certain demand . This is one of the greatest problems of modern age faced by mankind. Throughout the world, some sort of violence is going on. People belonging to different communities and sects are killing each others. Government are being threatened by various organizations. Very strong net-works of terrorists exist in different part of the world. All the countries of the world agree that this threat to the world peace should be tackled by joint efforts.
As the things go, it is expected that we will suffer more terrorist attacks in the months and years ahead. The apparent goal of the terrorists is to achieve larger effect in future. The terrorists' targets are unwarned, unprotected persons and facilities. Modern age may be called an Age of Terrorism. This is, in fact, World War III, though a different kind of war which we have known. Terrorism is unconventional warfare. There are no fronts, no armies, and no battlefields.
There are three goals to terrorism. First, to show that the government cannot protect you. It is to make people that they are unsafe wherever they are: going to work, going out for recreation, shopping. Second to create reaction and hence more terrorism. Thirds, to glamorize such acts. For these activity, there must be a significant target such as the twin U.S.A. A small action in an isolated community has no eye-catching appeal to the people. Because of progress in engineering and electronics, the explosives are becoming cheaper, lighter, more accurate, easier to use, and more powerful. Communication Technology has also helped the terrorists to coordinate their actions. As these trends continue, it is easier for smaller and smaller numbers of people to hurt larger and larger numbers.
As this is a new kind of war, the solution should not come from militaries, which are largely designed to fight other armed forces. The solution should come from new approaches that address the whole person, not just the political and economic components. The war against terrorism can only be truly won when we also declare war on the roots which cause such acts of barbarism: injustice, suppression of freedom, discrimination. Terrorism does not arise in a vacuum but has its roots in historical, political, social and cultural dysfunctions. Unless there is an equally dedicated attack on the causes of terrorism, there will never be victory in the war against terrorism.
Before starting our war against terrorism, we must be clear about the definition of terrorism. Sometimes, all injustice that exist in the world lead people to undertake hateful and destructive acts. The atrocities being committed on Kashmiris or Palestinians are causing suicidal bombing. Such people are heroes for their nation butt terrorists to the oppressors.
On government level, some acceptable system of protection should be revolved. People should be made aware of the doubtful persons, and their activities. A new force should be trained to tackle such activities. attempt should be made to eradicate injustice and oppressions from society.

Abuses of Newspapers.

Conclusion

Essay:-

The Newspaper, the Radio and the Television are the most powerful organs for the expression of the news and views about men and things. They are regarded by economists as a necessity of modern life. With the growth of literacy and the development of the means of communication they are playing a very important in society.

They have their uses and abuses.

The uses of the media are numerous . First, they keep us in touch with the current world affairs. Without them we cannot know the important news of even our own towns or villages. They extend the bounds of our knowledge and make us feel that we are a part of living world. The leading newspapers and TV channels are in touch with different parts of the world through certain Agencies, their reporters and their anchors. They supply them news from every part of the world.

Secondly, a great deal information is supplied to us by the media. Important decisions of law-courts are published and aired for the benefit of lawyers. The sportman find in them the news of his own liking. Commercial news are broadcast for businessmen. Lovers of the radio, the cinema and television can look up in them the daily programmes of these entertainments. The advertisement help the people to buy things. The unemployed can look up the "wanted" columns for vacant jobs.

Thirdly, the media ventilate the grievances of the public and form the public opinion. Thus they keep the public and the government in close contact. The current problems of political and social values are the subject matters of the leading articles in the newspapers, and news on television and radio. The people get aware of the policies and schemes of the government through the media.

Fourthly, the media are a source of entertainment. In weekly editions of newspapers, we have stories, poems, articles of general interests. On television, we enjoy serial plays, poetry competitions, humorous skits, and sometimes good films. Various channels of TV, provide classical films.

Lastly, the media have their educative value also. Readers of a good newspaper, and viewers of television are more intelligent, active and better informed than scholars. Newspapers, radio and television help us in disseminating good ideas. In Newspapers and some programmes on television we find reviews on newly published books. We read accounts of discoveries and scientific research. There are useful articles on every topic.

The media can do a lot of harm also. They are double edged weapons and cut both ways. By publishing or airing false news, they can mislead the people. They can make the people nervous and excited by by sensational news about strikes, public riots and war. They can set one community against another. By broadcasting or publishing the exaggerated accounts of communal riots, they can do irreparable harm. Sometimes persons working for newspapers or televisions are pressurized by mischievous people and become mere tools in their hands. By printing or presenting obscene advertisements and naked portraits, and love stories, they can be a danger to the morals of the people. Their inflammatory articles widen the gulf between the various nations of the world.

Education for women (Essay) with outlines.
Essay "Education For Women" for the preparation of exams suitable for all classes.

Education For Women

Outlines:-

Introduction: Importance of education for women.

Advantages: Women can perform their duties well:
i. As good citizens.
ii. As good mothers.
iii. As good wives

Conclusion: What type of education ?
Useful subjects as: Nursing, hygiene etc.

The progress of a country depends mainly on the percentage of literacy. This percentage is very high among men in the world, but alarmingly low in case of women. So, for the progress of a country, education for women is as much essential as for men. Men and women are two wheels of the cart of society. The cart cannot run properly if one of the wheels is defective. Women form almost half of the population of a country. If such a large portion denied the privilege of education, the country is bound to lag behind. There was a time when it was said that educated women are apt to neglect their domestic duties, and lose their tender grace and feminine virtues . An educated women was suspected to be self-conceited, good only for novel reading, playing on the organ, slighting her husband and disobeying her parents. But those days are gone. It is, now, pretty difficult to procure a good match for a girl who does not know how to read write. The importance of education for women is now admitted on all hands. Now the educated girl is as familiar a phenomenon as the educated boy.
Women play various roles in society. So there are many advantages of education for women. First, an educated woman is conversant with her duties as a citizen of a state. As educated woman is aware of the part she has to play in the growth of her nation. She understands her responsibilities towards herself, her family and her country. Women cannot become good citizens if they are uneducated. Moreover, they pass on their education to their children. It has been rightly said: "If you educate a man, you educate an individual: but if you educate a woman, you educate a family"
Secondly, a mother wields a great influence on her child: The upbringing of a child, the inculcation of good ideas and habits are done more by the mothers than the fathers or the teachers. An educated mother can serve her country in the sense that she produces good citizens with tolerant views and vast outlooks. Uneducated mothers are superstitious. They do not have elementary medical knowledge. The alarming figure of infant mortality is mostly due to the ignorance of mothers. Educated mothers will give the nation healthy, enlightened and decently brought up children.
Lastly, an uneducated woman cannot be a good wife, She will not be able to understand her husband. There will be no mutual adjustment which is very essential for a good married life. On the other hand, an educated wife is refined, matured and resourceful . She can help the family by getting into some employment. She can look after her husband and children in illness. She can run the administration of the home properly.
If education is so necessary for women, more girls schools, colleges and universities should be opened for them. But all women do not need that type of education which is imparted to men. There are many who are to stay to home. To them useful subjects such as nursing, domestic science, hygiene and embroidery should be taught. These subjects can be of more help to them than higher Mathematics, Political Science or Economics.

A BAG OF GOLD

Once there were three bosom friends. They lived in a village. They always played and chatted together. However, all the three were very greedy. They were jobless. They decided to go to a city to find some job to earn their livelihood. One day, they set out on a journey to try their luck in a city. They promised to stand by one another through thick and thin. They had to pass through a forest While passing through the forest, all of s a sudden , they found a bag of a full of golden coins. They felt very happy. They sat down and started to count the coins. They decided to divide them equally among themselves. But each wished in his heart of heart to have all the coins himself. They were feeling very hungry. Therefore, they sent one of them to bring some food from the city. On the way to the city, the man thought that he should have all the coins. So he decided to kill his two friends. He brought some poison and mixed it into the food of his other two friends. While in his absence, the other two friend planned to kill him and divide the coins between themselves equally. When he reached them with food, they killed him. Then they sat and ate the poisoned food. Soon after taking the food, they felt severe pain in their stomachs and died before dividing the coins.
